Drawing on her smoky low-range and playful, powerful style, Hannah Smalltree sings her own originals and covers from all genres, often soul, funk, R&B, jazz and more.
Hannah loves words in any form — talking with people, reading, traveling, collecting and sharing stories…and especially songs. Hannah’s love of singing live is obvious and infectious, especially when she’s performing with incredible musicians, notably Henley Douglas and all the players in HDR&B. Shows with Hannah and HDR&B often include improvisation, freestyle, special guests and creative musical exploration.
Current projects:
- New studio release coming soon with Henley Douglas and HDR&B! Stay tuned for Hannah’s original “Little Angel and Devil” and “Voodoo” – a Neville Brothers cover and more!
- Live shows with HDR&B around the North Shore, Massachusetts often in conjunction with SOSS Records – my friends and tireless music supporters. Hannah is also a semi-frequent guest at Mercy Tavern blues jams on Fridays in Salem, Mass.
A singer, songwriter and performer of many styles, Hannah aims to spread joy, levity and interesting ideas. Hannah has performed with many bands over the years (short list here.) A native of New Hampshire, Hannah lives in Massachusetts, lived a while in Santa Cruz, California, and travels frequently for business and leisure.
If you’re curious about the last name…it is not Native American. “Smalltree” is the name on Hannah’s birth certificate, created by her hippie parents at when she was born. It’s based on their last names…more to the story (as usual.)
